Suhasini Seelin

Performer, Explorer and Storyteller

Suhasini Seelin is an experienced actor and performance artist, who works in multiple forms of live performance such as theatre, mime and live art . She has performed and shown work in Australia, India, Africa and Europe and she has conducted workshops in 3 continents. She is most interested in the magic that lies within the mundane - objects (Coffee Zombie) movements (Luminous Lunas), places (Janara Jaaga) which raise subtle questions and challenge existing thought patterns. She experiments with still and moving images, and is now interested in the ways AI is used and its impact on life.

Coffee Zombie

For this challenge, we had invited the fellows to bring their final projects to life through the powerful mediums of either a short film or a graphic novel. Suhasini has created Coffee Zombie, an episodic graphic novel series, where the main character Coffee Zombie - an evolved human character who can trace the entire supply chain of coffee with just a sip, along with her sidekick Bubba Brew - a reusable AI coffee cup, solve coffee crimes in 2050.

For challenge 9, the fellows presented a pitch deck of their visual narratives. These narratives, set in 2050, address a conflict in an ideal future and its resolution. The pitch will serve as a storyboard for the final project, presented as either a short film or graphic novel. Suhasini’s project titled Coffee Zombie: The Coffee Crime Killer is a mystery series set in a near-future world. Here, coffee is currency, the climate is in crisis and corporate greenwashing runs deep.

Challenge 8 was a fun exercise in which the fellows generated interactive AI personas using the Gooey.AI copilot tool. Suhasini’s bot Bubba Brew is a re-usable coffee cup. It is a smart AI based coffee cup with access to all kinds of technology to authenticate Coffee Zombie’s findings and support it. It can change appearances all the time, has a serious tone, but is full of jokes and puns!

7

After an engaging workshop with Nina Sabnani, the fellows applied their imagination to craft a narrative using five images that Nina gave as prompts. Suhasini presented her narrative as a short film script titled The Road Ahead.

6

For this challenge, we wanted the fellows to create supporting characters that would inhabit their envisioned future world. Suhasini brought to life the supporting character of Bubba Brew. Named after Baba Budan, who first brought coffee beans to India, Bubba is an encyclopedia of all things coffee. It's a smart AI based coffee cup with access to all kinds of technology to authenticate CZ’s findings and support it. Can change appearances all the time.

Fellows developed characters who would live in their imagined future worlds. Suhasini created the character of Coffee Zombie, someone who cannot function without coffee. Over the years, she has seen the quality of coffee go through multiple variations and progressively decline. Her superpower is that she can feel it in her body. Her mission is clear - clean, hygienic coffee for everyone.

For this challenge, we had asked the fellows to illustrate their peers’ predictions for the future. Suhasini illustrated the Robot Marriage Act 2050. As more and more people fall in love with humanoids, India is having a hard time passing this act. These are some daily cartoons that might appear in the newspaper.

2

We asked the fellows to explore what the future would look like. We also asked them to forecast a series of predictions for the next few years, with a timeline of no more than 25 years ahead. Suhasini made the following predictions about the future. In 2050, Life expectancy will increase to about 80 years (67.3 yrs as of 2021). People will live longer, healthier and wealthier lives due to advanced technologies like Crispr, Cancer Detection, AI powered diagnosis and treatment, robo surgery, etc. Smaller carbon neutral hubs will be homes to fully sustainable communities, directing people away from large cities. People will be able to change their appearance everyday (like clothes), with AR + Beautification technology. Recognizing people will be very confusing, until a new sense is developed.

1

This was a very exciting exercise where fellows created personality portraits of their peers. Suhasini created a portrait of Sanjita Samanta.
